About Cayman General Information
The Cayman Islands is a British Overseas Territory consisting of three islands (Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman) located in the Northwest Caribbean, approximately 480 miles south of Miami. Resident population is approximately 55,000, the majority of which reside on Grand Cayman. Convenient air access is provided by major airlines, with direct flights from several US cities, as well as Canada and the United Kingdom.
As a British Overseas Territory, the Cayman Islands have a high degree of autonomy, with local control of internal affairs by the elected Legislative Assembly. George Town, the capital and primary business centre, is only a few minutes drive from the airport. There are no price or exchange controls and the unit of currency, the Cayman Islands dollar (CI$), is fixed at CI$1.00 to US$1.25. The US dollar is, however, widely accepted throughout the islands.
